Piero Lissoni studied Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and graduated in 1985, he began collaborating as designer and Art Director with furniture manufacturers Boffi, Living Divani and Porro. In 1986, together with Nicoletta Canesi, Piero Lissoni founded “Studio Lissoni”, which later became “Lissoni Associati”, and in 1996 created Graph.x to develop graphic projects. The work of the studio includes architecture, graphic and industrial design projects, ranging from furniture, accessories, kitchens, bathroom and lighting fixtures to corporate identity, advertising, catalogues and packaging. Interior design projects include hotels, showrooms, trade stands, private houses, shops and yachts.
The studio currently employs over 70 people to include architects, designers and graphic designers and creates solutions for clients such as Alessi, Boffi, Cappellini, Cassina, Flos/Antares, Fritz Hansen, Glas Italia, Kartell, Knoll International, Lema, Living Divani, Poltrona Frau, Porro, Tecno, Thonet and Wella. Incursions into the fashion world involve store design and collaboration with Italian brands such as Allegri, Benetton, Piazza Sempione, Santandrea tailoring, Serapian and the American designer Elie Tahari.
Piero Lissoni architectural projects include a private villa near Como (2005); the renovation and refurbishment of the public areas of the “Monaco & Grand Canal” hotel (2002-2004), the design of the “Bacaro” bar-restaurant (2003) and “Andrea Zanin” pastry shop (2007), all three in Venice; the “Bentley” Design HotelTM in Istanbul (2002); the “Al Porto” Design HotelTM on Zurich lake (2001); the “Mitsui Garden” hotel in Tokyo (2005). In addition to different showrooms for Boffi, Cassina, Porro and Tecno, Piero Lissoni re-designed the headquarters of Living Divani in Anzano del Parco (2007) and La Rinascente Group’s new offices in Milan (2006).
In collaboration with Luca Brenta Yacht Design, Piero Lissoni designed and realized the interiors of the 27m sailing yacht “Ghost” (2005) owned by a New York art dealer, and the 50m motor yacht “Tribů” designed for Luciano Benetton (2007). He has realized various showrooms for BY, a partnership between Boffi, Living Divani and Porro to produce a complete Made in Italy system for home furnishing: the first showroom opened in New York in 2007 and was quickly followed by Munich, Lyon, Los Angeles and London.
Graph.x handles the entire corporate identity, logo and billboards for the latest editions of the Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia.
Projects in progress include a luxury resort on Dellis Cay, a private island in the Turks & Caicos, to include a Mandarin Hotel, residences and large villas; in Miami the interior architecture for the Shangri-La Hotel & Residence; in Amsterdam an innovative design hotel in the Museum Square area; in Jerusalem the Mamilla Hotel with 192 new rooms and suites besides the interior architecture of bar & lounge areas and the Scala restaurant (2008) serving Mediterranean kosher haute cuisine; on Garda Lake the renovation of an old palace converted in a luxury hotel; in Milan the re-opening of the historic Teatro Nazionale scheduled for September 2009; a new Benetton building in Istanbul; private lofts and villas, shops and showrooms all over the world.
Piero Lissoni has received numerous awards throughout his career: in 2005 he was inducted into the New York Hall of Fame of Interior Design; he won Elle Decoration International Design Awards for “Table System”(2006) and “ Glass bathtub”(2009) by Boffi; the Good Design Award by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum with the chair “Hi Tech”(2007) by Living Divani. He was recognized New Designer of the Year at the World Superyacht Award for the sailing yacht Ghost in 2006. The Tribů yacht receiveid the Green Yachting Certificaton for its ecological attributes (2007) and won the Monte-Carlo Showboat International Award (2008)
