Sebastian Conran


Hailing from the illustrious Conran family of designers, Sebastian trained in Industrial Design Engineering at Central School of Design. In 1987 he started his own merchandise and brand development consultancy, Product Identity Design, working with a variety of leading international businesses on a wide range of projects. In 1999 he merged his design studio with the Conran Group to form Conran & Partners, where Sebastian is now the Director responsible for all the product and graphics work

Over the past 20 years, Conran and Partners have made a significant difference to cityscapes throughout the world. The practice has revitalised architectural landmarks across London with projects such as Michelin House, Butlers Wharf and the Bluebird Garage. In conjunction with City Lofts, our architects have built developments in major cities all over Britain. In Japan, we have recently completed work on Roppongi Hills, a new 11-hectare urban quarter in the heart of Tokyo.

They have an excellent reputation for creating distinctive and high-quality interiors; whether it is an apartment in Tokyo, a hotel lobby in Delhi, a rooftop restaurant in the City of London, or a retail outlet for a major high-street chain. All schemes are based on a strong underlying idea, developed with the client, which informs every detail from the arrangement of space to materials and graphics. The results deliver both delight and integrity, as well as sound commercial success.

Sebastian's technical innovations and inventions have been involved in dozens of patents in a wide variety of fields and his work has been awarded many design, marketing and innovation awards. Conran & Partners, which has almost 100 employees working in architecture, interiors, product & graphic design. Studio Conran is the Brand & Merchandise development division of the Conran Group.

He has taught design at the Royal College of Art and gives frequent lectures. He is an elected member of Chartered Society of Designers, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Institute of Packaging, Trustee of the Design Museum and the Conran Foundation, and ambassador to the children's charity I CAN. He also judges and sponsors many design awards. A founding contributor to Blueprint magazine he has written numerous articles and books on design.
